General Information
Alliance for Cancer Gene Therapy is the only charitable organization in the nation dedicated exclusively to funding and fostering research into cell and gene therapies for cancer. Our mission is to seek out and support revolutionary scientific research into the causes, treatment, and prevention of all types of cancer, using cells and genes as medicine. To this end, we fund and monitor studies and trials that meet the highest possible standards, educate the public on the potential for targeted medicine, and facilitate greater collaboration among the scientific and philanthropic communities to promote progress.

Specialization
Since its founding in 2001, ACGT has awarded 52 researcher grants totaling more than $26 million. This research targets a specific gene and cell mutations, thereby reducing or eliminating devastating and debilitating side effects of traditional treatments. ACGT awarded three Young Investigator Awards in 2016 to help take researchers to the next level in cancer treatment and set the stage for clinical trials. The 2016 recipients included: Dr. Yvonne Chen of UCLA for her work eradicating leukemia and lymphoma with immunotherapy; Dr. Brent Hanks of Duke University for his work on a vaccine for melanoma using immunotherapy; and Dr. Samuel Katz of Yale University for his work using RNA to kill blood cancers. ACGT awarded one Clinical Investigator Award in 2016 – the Wendy-Walk/ACGT Sarcoma grant to Dr. Crystal Mackall of Stanford University for her work in immunotherapy for Osteosarcoma.
