As a founding member of CURE, Yale recognizes the importance of educating the public about biomedical research. Yale University is an internationally recognized academic institution. Its mission is to teach about, and to conduct, research in the sciences and humanities. The broad base of research at Yale is best described as a continuum from basic to applied. In the last decade, Yale has also become a catalyst in the revitalization of new Haven’s economy. The University’s faculty and staff of over 11,000 make it the largest employer in the city. Yale’s spending on payroll and benefits, and its purchasing of goods, translate into a direct economic impact of over $1 billion annually in Connecticut. The University collaborates with city, state and business leaders to forge partnerships to support the continuing revitalization of New Haven.
